A Hull dad has made a remarkable transformation in just a matter of months in time for his wedding.
Luke Bottomley, 30, of Kingswood, has lost just over three stone since Christmas after increasing his exercise routine and eating a healthier diet – along with having his wedding on June 19 this year as the motivation to succeed.
Mr Bottomley has gone from weighing 16 stone 10lbs to 13 stone 7lbs and says that he wanted to look better and get fitter for his fiancée and two-year-old son.
“I decided that I needed to lose weight around Christmas time last year when I looked in the mirror, saw myself at my heaviest and thought, this is not the person that I want my fiancée to marry, and for my own sanity as well, I decided to get myself sorted,” said Mr Bottomley, who works in recruitment as a business manager.
“I’ve also got a two-year-old son and I want my little lad to be proud of me, and not to carry on with the slippery slope of letting myself go, so aimed to be in the best physical condition I could be.
“I’d put on the weight through Christmas overindulgence, but it was also through having a child and being so busy, as well as getting into lazy habits.
“I’m somebody that’s always struggled with my weight – I can just look at a pork pie or a bag of crisps and put on half a stone.
“I’ve been on loads of different diets and even had four different gym memberships at one time but never went and paid for a PT (personal trainer), but it didn’t work.
“This time thought when I decided I was going to get fit, it worked as I’m a very goal orientated person, and at Christmas I thought if I’m not going to get fit for my wedding, I’m never going to do it.”
To lose the weight and turn his life around, Mr Bottomley enlisted the help of personal trainer Tom Cowen, who runs exercise bootcamps four times a week.
He says he first felt daunted at the prospect of such intensive training, but enjoyed the classes, and found Tom to be an understanding trainer in a supportive gym.
To lose the weight along with exercising, Mr Bottomley did not eat less food, but became more conscious of what he was eating and ate more fresh food and cut out processed goods, as well as reducing his alcohol intake.

“I feel like I’ve now hit my target weight that I’m going to maintain and continue to be fitter and healthier, and I’m in the best shape of my life,” said Mr Bottomley.
“I’m so proud that I stuck to the diet and exercise and got good results, and I now feel that I can comfortably go to my wedding – which will be one of the biggest days of my life.
“My fiancee is also proud of me for doing it, and has been very supportive throughout my journey”.
