BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Low tides are expected through the rest of the week and health officials have some tips for recreational shellfish harvesters.
The Washington State Department of Health is reminding harvesters to take extra precautions to prevent illness.
They recommend following the “Three Cs” — check, chill and cook.
Check the DOH Shellfish Safety Map before harvesting, chill shellfish immediately after harvesting and cook at 145 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 seconds to destroy bacteria.
