Two new human cases of the mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus have been confirmed in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Department of Health announced Friday.

The two new diagnoses mark seven confirmed cases of EEE among Massachusetts residents in 2019. The fifth case was announced Thursday, and one Mass. woman being treated for the virus died in August.

The newest cases were found in a woman in her 60s from eastern Worcester County and a girl under 18 from southwestern Middlesex County.

Risk levels in four communities have been raised to critical as a result of the newly confirmed cases. The communities newly listed as at critical risk are Framingham, Marlborough, Northborough, and Sudbury.
