Wallingford, CT- On Wednesday, September 25, in a live broadcast on Facebook viewed by over 2,000 people, the Wallingford Family YMCA announced that it will award a free Total Body Transformation to Jen Humowitz of Wallingford. Humowitz entered the Y’s September essay contest, sharing the story of her personal struggle with weight loss and various health afflictions.

“I volunteer at the Mystic Aquarium with the Stranded Animal Rescue Program, which involves responding to calls of injured marine life along the shoreline, including seals, sea turtles, dolphins, etc. I also participate in the release of these beautiful animals once they are nursed back to health, and with my weight, it’s becoming extremely difficult (and scary) to navigate the beach and /or slippery rocks and sand while carrying a 70 pound seal in a crate. I would be devastated if I was not able to continue volunteering because of my weight,” shared Jen in her emotional essay testimonial.

Jen excitedly met with YMCA trainers this week to map out a schedule for her transformation. She will receive three months of free personal training and access to the YMCA’s facilities to exercise during her personal time. The Y will document Jen’s progress and share her story publicly.

“We are thrilled to work with someone as deserving as Jen,” commented Eric Hutchinson, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Y. “To be able to tell her story in real time as she achieves her long-awaited goals is a real honor.”

To follow Jen’s journey, the Y invites the public to visit her Transformation Page at https://www.wallingfordymca.org/fitness-nutrition-2/total-body-transformation/.

“Our goal,” says Hutchinson, “is not only to give Jen the healthy lifestyle she has wanted for so long, but to show the community that they, too, have the ability to write their own ending and make a positive and lasting change.”

The Wallingford Family YMCA has been the cornerstone of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility in the Greater Wallingford Community for almost 75 years. They strive to provide life-altering programming to all those who seek it, regardless of their ability to pay.
