Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will return to the Octagon next weekend at UFC 245 when he takes on Marlon Moraes.

Aldo’s last bout came in May when he lost to Aussie Alexander Volkanovski via unanimous decision.

But in a bizarre twist, Aldo decided to drop down to bantamweight for his next bout and concern has been raised over his wellbeing after images emerged showing his gaunt like frame.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani noted his concern for Aldo and couldn’t figure out why the Brazilian star made the call to drop down this late in his career.

Fellow UFC fighter Darren Till also couldn’t understand the reasoning behind Aldo’s move and said he’s backing Marlon to emerge victorious in the fight.

But as the concerns were raised for Aldo, one UFC superstar came to the defence of the former champ and believes he’s more on top now.

Conor McGregor toppled Aldo at UFC 194 in devastatingly quick fashion to claim the featherweight title, but it was McGregor who backed in Aldo and his leaner look.

Replying to Helwani’s tweet, the Irishman said to pull off what Aldo has done requires a long-time commitment.

“I disagree here,” McGregor said. “He looks more than on top of it in my experienced opinion. Well trimmed in advance, and naturally a lighter man now. This can only be done over a long length of time and with complete dedication. Respect! I wish him well and am excited to see him in this division.”

Helwani responded to McGregor by asking several follow up questions, all pointing to why would he drop down in class this late in his career.

McGregor’s response was a perfect summation of why a former champion of one division would move to another class.

“The rejuvenation of your career with fresh goals and targets!” McGregor said in response.

“The prestige of being a UFC World champion in two weight divisions!

“The feeling of excitement you will give the fans with all the new potential match-ups that can be made!

“All great and valid reasons! Enjoy.”

Aldo and Moraes are currently the fourth fight on the loaded UFC 245 card which is headlined by three monster title fights.

Amanda Nunes will put her bantamweight title on the line against Germaine de Randamie before Max Holloway and Volkanovski duke it out in the co-main event for the featherweight belt.

The card will wrap up with the most hated man in the UFC Colby Covington and welterweight champion Kamaru Usman squaring off.

We’ll find out on Sunday afternoon if Aldo’s dramatic weight loss was worth it.
