PGA Tour star Bryson DeChambeau has transformed himself with a muscle-bound physique in just a matter of months following golf’s return amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The world No.13, formerly known as the ‘Mad Scientist’ for his intellectual approach to the game, has packed on 20 pounds of muscle to his figure during the COVID-19 break, which has led to some fans renaming him ‘The Incredible Bulk’.
The 26-year-old displayed a comparatively leaner and slender figure at the Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament in March, with his body transformation the main talking point of last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge.
During the three-month break, he put on 9kg and then in last week’s tournament in Texas incredibly averaged 344 yards and 190mph ball speed with the driver – significantly higher than the PGA Tour average.
DeChambeau finished in a tie for third after narrowly missing out on a place in the play-off, which saw Daniel Berger beat Collin Morikawa.
Over the course of the last year, DeChambeau has packed on over THREE STONE of muscle, establishing himself alongside the likes of Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy as one of the hardest hitters in the sport.
“I’ve upped about 20 pounds (9kg),” DeChambeau told reporters last week.
“It doesn’t mean I’m going to hit it farther (even though he has!), but I’ve done a lot of speed training to attain these new ball speeds.
“When I was out here I was attaining ball speeds of 193 (miles per hour, or 310km/h), 195 on certain holes, and quite honestly I can’t use it out here. There’s only a couple holes I can use it, No.11 and No.1 and No.2 really.”
Justin Rose, who was playing in DeChambeau’s group, says he has seen a ‘massive difference’ in the American’s game.
“I saw a massive difference — one in his physique for sure,” Rose remarked.

“I mean, he’s huge. I played with Dustin Johnson and I’m not small. But at 6-3 (190cm) and 190 pounds (86kg), I kind of felt pretty small out on the golf course.
“You can tell the practice swings are very intentional. He’s looking for speed. He’s obviously trained speed.
“But the other elements of his game still look in control. So it looks like he’s definitely added a couple of weapons for sure.”
