The latest update from the Minnesota Department of Health.

There has been a significant drop in the number of people in hospital for COVID-19 in the latest figures from the Minnesota Department of Health.

There are now 300 people in total hospitalized for the coronavirus, of which 155 are in the ICU. This is the lowest it has been at since April 28.

There are 427 new cases in Saturday’s report, 10 of which have been removed for an official tally of 417. Cases are removed for a variety of reasons, including patients being from another state and false positive test results.

Six more deaths were confirmed, of which four were residents of long-term care or assisted-living facilities. Residents of congregate care make up 1,116 of the 1,417 total deaths in Minnesota.

Saturday marks the seventh consecutive day Minnesota has reported single-digit deaths from the virus, which comes after nearly two full months featuring double-digit deaths almost every day.

Coronavirus in Minnesota by the numbers:

  • Tests:  568,907 (up from 557,278)
  • Confirmed cases:  35,033 (up from 34,616)
  • Deaths: 1,417 (up from 1,411)
  • Still hospitalized: 300 (down from 335)
  • Patients in intensive care: 155 (down from 157)
  • Patients no longer requiring isolation: 30,401 (up from 29,854)

There have been 35 patients deemed to have “probably” died from COVID-19, though that total isn’t included in the aforementioned death toll. Those cases represent victims who never received a COVID-19 test, but for whom doctors believe within a reasonable degree of certainty that the virus caused their death.
