The founder and CEO of Sculpt—a health supplement company focused on weight loss and management—Anita Rincon knows that starting and growing a business doesn’t happen overnight. Sculpt was built out of her desire to help women reach sustainable weight loss goals and achieve optimum health, and Rincon utilized her work experience and her personal journey to a healthier lifestyle to launch a business, now a million-dollar company.

“What we’re creating with Sculpt as a brand is what I wish I had when I was struggling on my own: it’s a safe place, an educational, strong community built for women from all walks of life who share the same goal of becoming their healthiest, happiest self,” Rincon said.

Now sold on Amazon, and at Wal Mart and Target stores nationwide with plans to launch at The Vitamin Shoppe this year, Sculpt caters to customers worldwide.

The company’s weight management supplements are designed for specific purposes such as helping to cut body fat, burn more calories, lower blood sugar and decrease appetite. The “Day Kit,” “Cheat Day,” “Slim Kit,” “Body Burn” and “Night Kit” are non-GMO, chemical free and cost no more than $15, according to product descriptions on Target’s website. They are designed to produce results when users exercise regularly and maintain a balanced diet. The company also carries products for nails and skincare. Rincon shares some pointers that helped her on her road to entrepreneurship and in making Sculpt a widely used product.

Passion Behind The Project

Rincon was looking for more than a business when she embarked on her journey to create Sculpt in 2018. Engrossed in growing her cosmetics company, she was a busy New Yorker with one thing on her mind: her career. When she finally decided to care for her health, she knew that it would take determination and a detailed plan.

“What started as a simple goal to lose weight turned into a journey that ended up changing my entire life—not only did I lose the weight, but what really changed for me is how I look at nutrition and exercise,” Rincon said. “It became a lifestyle, and no longer a temporary fix.”

Rincon’s drive to maintain the healthier switch enabled her to develop a strong personal motivation to grow the business and propel it to succeed.

Rincon’s vision from day one aimed to actually help others. “Focus on developing the best product you possibly can and figure out how it can make your potential customers’ lives better,” she said.

Have A Finance Plan

Rincon had no outside investors and instead, set aside her own money to develop Sculpt. She recommends networking if one is looking for investors. Her advice for starting a business is to plan ahead, budget and establish realistic financial goals—both short-term and long-term.

Rincon recommends working with freelancers in the beginning, and then hiring only when the company is ripe for that step—or “when it’s critical to your company’s growth and ability to operate profitably,” she said.

Build A Strong Team and Delegate Tasks

Rincon admits it’s near impossible to grow a business on one’s own, and that it was often challenging to juggle the takeoff of Sculpt and maintain a fully operational cosmetics line simultaneously. Formulating each product required locating the right laboratory, collaborating with nutritional researchers and dedicating a substantial amount of time to testing. Rincon credits her team with helping her balance these factors.

“Being able to trust your team is so important, especially in those moments where you have to delegate tasks and leave it up to others to manage your brand and make good decisions,” she said.

“You want to make sure that your team is equipped with the right drive, experience and expertise for your business to thrive.”

Find A Unique Angle That Takes Your Product From A Good Idea to A Lasting Solution

Later this year Sculpt will launch a mobile app featuring workout programs and customized nutrition plans. This optional guidance from Sculpt’s digital portal adds to the store-bought supplements by offering virtual support for a healthier, holistic lifestyle.

“Sculpt’s mission as a brand goes beyond the product line—with our nutritionists and trainers, we provide tools for women not only to get in their best physical shape, but how to eat balanced, exercise properly and take care of their overall well-being in a relatable way,” Rincon said.

Keep Up With Changing Times

Despite a pandemic, Rincon felt that healthcare should still be a priority and expanded the virtual components of Sculpt to allow those interested to take charge of their health, with or without supplements. The company launched the free Summer Sculpt in anticipation of the unveiling of the app’s full Sculpt program. Rincon describes it as “a home fitness challenge that we created to help our community stay active and focus on their health during these challenging times that we are facing globally right now.”

Rincon said the journey has “forced me to overcome fears, take risks and learn from mistakes, but I believe that’s what entrepreneurship is all about.”
