Michigan sees new single-day high for coronavirus cases, reports 31 deaths – Detroit Free Press

Michigan reported 3,792 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day case total since the pandemic began, and 31 deaths from COVID-19, according to Saturday’s update from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

This brings the state’s total to 178,180 confirmed cases and 7,340 deaths. The deaths reported Saturday include 20 identified during a vital records review, the health department said, which happens three times a week. 

As of Friday, 121,093 Michiganders are considered recovered from COVID-19, an increase of 6,154 from the previous week. The state considers a patient who tests positive and has not died after 30 days of iniitial symptoms to be recovered.

Michigan has a fatality rate of 4.1% among known cases. 

Data from the state health department also includes 19,226 probable cases and 359 probable deaths, for a total of 197,406 cases and 7,699 deaths.
