The number of Covid cases is rising in Chatham, as elsewhere in NJ. Hospital ICUs are filling up. Keep up the mask-wearing and social distancing—they work! Please also keep in mind three new pieces of information from our Borough Health Officer, Megan Avallone:

1. Right now, typical Covid symptoms, particularly in teens, consist of achiness, headaches, tiredness, diarrhea, and/or feeling “off.” Cough and fever are often absent. If your child seems listless, ask how they are doing, and contact your doctor if they report feeling unwell.

2. New cases of concern have been traced to youth club sports. If your child plays club sports, check with the coach and the league to make sure that all Covid safety rules are being followed (https://www.nj.gov/health/cd/topics/COVID_GuidanceForSportsActivities%2011%2011%2020_CDS%20comments_FINAL%20(002).pdf). If your child is asked to quarantine, please comply with the request. Consider keeping a detailed diary of your child’s contacts, to facilitate contact tracing in case they or a teammate tests positive.

Our newsletter delivers the local news that you can trust.

3. New cases of transmission within households are also a rising concern. If you or a family member test positive and are asked by a contact tracer to “isolate,” or if you have Covid symptoms and have not yet received test results, please take the following steps for at least 10 days:

a. Stay away from family members as much as possible, including using a separate bathroom if possible. Do not share utensils, towels, etc.

b. Do not allow visitors in the home.

c. Monitor the sick person’s health and contact their health care provider if condition deteriorates.

d. Wear mask and gloves to wash sick person’s laundry, and wash on warm with detergent.

e. All members of the household should wash their hands frequently and well.

f. Sanitize frequently touched services.

Stay well, and stay Chatham Strong. We will get through this together.
