Romelu Lukaku has had a remarkable body transformation in the last two years as he gears up for another crack at the Premier League.
The Belgian striker has re-signed for Chelsea in a club-record £97.5 million transfer, putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Now 28, Lukaku is a completely different player to the raw 18-year-old Chelsea signed from Anderlecht ten years but he’s also in considerably better physical condition two years on from leaving England.
During his time at Manchester United, Lukaku was 9 lbs overweight and looked extremely bulky and top-heavy.
Naturally, Lukaku has a big frame but he was actually suffering from a malfunctioning digestive system that neither he or the club were aware of.
Under the help of expert nutritionist Matteo Pincella, Lukaku went from 15st 11lbs to around 14st 9 lbs.
Slimmer and more mobile, Lukaku soon began to do the business for the Nerazzurri and scored 64 goals in 95 games – including 24 in 36 Serie A games as the team ended a long wait for a Scudetto win last season.
And in his pictures in Chelsea colours following his return, the Anderlecht youth product looks in absolutely sensational shape.
The difference is staggering and it genuinely looks like two different people.
“When I joined Inter we did an analysis of my body and a lot has changed,” Lukaku told Inter’s official podcast regarding his diet.
“I eat a lot of salad and fish, which has a great effect on me. I take carnitine, it makes me feel good, and I take vitamins.
“I eat salad for lunch, a lot of chicken breast, shirataki noodles. Since following this lifestyle I feel better on the pitch, more responsive and faster.
“I love sweet potatoes and black rice, I don’t eat pasta.
“I have reached another level, physically and mentally. The day before the game I can go overboard with carbohydrates. After most matches I eat two packs of gnocchi. They get into my circulation quickly, they help me a lot.
“I drink and eat at the stadium, in our canteen, or I take my food home, then recover with lots of ice.”
Chelsea’s record signing and top earner is poised to make his second debut for the club against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.
